About audra owens, lpc
You don’t have to carry this all on your own.
I’m a Chandler and Gilbert based therapist specializing in trauma and relationships.
Life experience has taught me: even when you don’t see a way out, that doesn’t mean one doesn’t exist. Your marriage can fall apart and be rebuilt to something so much better than anything you imagined you would ever have. You can find yourself in the depths of depression with unchangeable life circumstances and find happiness again. Your nervous system can in fact be calm again. You can feel God’s love again. I have experienced dark places myself. I know the struggle. You don’t have to just survive, you can thrive!
About Me: I was born and raised in Chandler, AZ. I am a mother to five incredible children. I married my childhood sweetheart in 2000. Together we have grown and survived the difficulty of marrying young and raising a big family. We fell apart so many times, we almost called it quits just as many times, yet we now find ourselves stronger and closer and more intimately connected than ever. Through our journey we have become acquainted with grief, trauma, addiction, the 12 steps, and connecting with God and each other to heal. Our faith in Jesus Christ is central to our lives.
When I’m not “therapizing” I enjoy playing racquet sports, water sports, camping in the forest or on the beach in Mexico, scuba diving, and spending time with my family and friends.
How I work
At the core of my approach to therapy is a belief that we are meant to have joy.
We are meant to love ourselves and believe that we are lovable. The baby surprise #5 child of our family (who at 4yrs old was always doted on by all her older siblings) once told me, “Mom, everybody loves me!” I smiled at her and said “You are right baby girl, everybody loves you” and she smiled at me and to herself with sweet innocence and contentment.
What if we could live like a humble child? What if we chose to believe we are enough, we are lovable, and just assume the people we would like to be friends with probably want to be our friend to rather than worrying that they don’t. Assume someone wants that telephone call from you, or the drop by treat or visit, or the invitation to get together. What do you really have to lose? When we love ourselves, we can stop worrying about being rejected by others we really can start spreading love and kindness everywhere we go.
I want to help you accept yourself. I really don’t believe anyone is truly broken, it just makes sense that our hurt and our trauma created methods of self protection we implement around us. I normalize that and explore new and more freeing ways to approach the world. I deepen these new beliefs with trauma work to really help them sink in.
please Hear me when I say:
Being here doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’re strong.
Just living in misery shouldn’t be an option. It takes determination to want to change yourself and your relationships for the better. Bravo for being willing to take charge of your mental health!
